SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Jan. 17, 2025 – The 2025 Independent Games Festival (IGF) Awards finalists have been announced, and "Consume Me," a deeply personal game exploring one's relationship with food, leads the pack with an impressive five nominations.
Celebrating Independent Games and Their Creators
The IGF Awards, a highlight of the Game Developers Conference (GDC), is the longest-running festival, summit, and showcase dedicated to celebrating independent games and the talented individuals who create them. This year's ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 19th at 6:30 PM PT and will be open to all GDC attendees, regardless of their pass level. The event will also be streamed live on GDC Twitch.
"Consume Me" Takes Center Stage
Developed by Jenny Jiao Hsia in collaboration with AP Thomson, Jie En Lee, Violet W-P, and Ken "coda" Snyder, "Consume Me" has garnered significant recognition for its unique and impactful approach to storytelling. The game has been nominated for Excellence in Design, Excellence in Narrative, Excellence in Visual Art, the Nuovo Award, and the prestigious Seumas McNally Grand Prize.
Drawing from Hsia's personal experiences with dieting and disordered eating, "Consume Me" uses dark humor to delve into the complex relationship many people have with food. This introspective game follows in the footsteps of last year's Seumas McNally Grand Prize winner, "Venba," which also explored the themes of food and family through a narrative cooking game.
Other Notable Nominees
"Consume Me" is joined by other exceptional titles vying for recognition at the IGF Awards:
- "Despelote" by Julián Cordero and Sebastian Valbuena, a slice-of-life adventure about childhood and soccer in Quito, Ecuador, has secured four nominations, including the Seumas McNally Grand Prize.
- "INDIKA" (Odd Meter / 11 bit studios), "Caves of Qud" (Freehold Games / Kitfox Games), and "Thank Goodness You're Here!" (Coal Supper / Panic) have each received three nominations, showcasing the diversity and creativity within the independent game scene.
A Celebration of Creativity and Innovation
This year's nominees were carefully selected from nearly 500 entries by expert juries in each category. These juries rigorously evaluated each game, engaging in thoughtful discussions to identify the finalists that represent the best of independent game development.
