SHERIDAN, WYOMING – November 29, 2024 - The BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2024 marked a thrilling return to the event's roots in Africa, with Namibia serving as the stunning backdrop for the ninth edition of this legendary adventure motorcycling competition. Over six days, 22 teams from around the globe tackled a challenging 1,350-kilometer route, showcasing their riding skills, endurance, and camaraderie amidst Namibia's diverse and breathtaking landscapes.

A Global Celebration of Adventure Motorcycling

The GS Trophy 2024 brought together 190 participants from 34 nations, including riders, marshals, mechanics, medical teams, and media representatives. With 120 motorcycles and 32 support vehicles traversing Namibia's rugged terrain, the event was a testament to the global appeal of adventure motorcycling and the spirit of the GS community.

Team Germany Reclaims the Trophy

After intense competition, Team Germany emerged victorious, reclaiming the GS Trophy title they last held in 2012. "It’s an indescribable feeling," said Christopher Michi of Team Germany. "We came here to give our best, but actually to stand here as winners, it’s surreal.”

The German team's strategic approach, consistent performance, and unwavering teamwork allowed them to overcome the challenges and secure their victory. "This victory is more than just a trophy," reflected Jan Stahl of Team Germany. "It’s the culmination of everything we’ve worked for."

Team International Makes History

The Female International Team also celebrated a historic victory, marking a significant milestone for women in adventure motorcycling. "I am beyond thrilled!" exclaimed Małgorzata Jakubiak of the winning team. "This feels like a dream come true."

Their victory showcased the growing presence and skill of female riders in the adventure motorcycling world. BMW Motorrad continues to champion female riders by providing dedicated competition categories, allowing women to compete on the same challenging course as the men's teams.

A Journey Through Namibia's Diverse Landscapes

The GS Trophy 2024 took riders through a variety of challenging terrains, from vast savannas and towering canyons to rocky trails and dry riverbeds. Each day presented unique challenges designed to test the riders' skills and push them to their limits.

Highlights from the Event

  • Day 1: The event kicked off with the Namibia Welcome Trial, a technical section near an abandoned copper mine, followed by the AKRAPOVIČ Enduro Challenge through a sandy riverbed.
  • Day 2: Riders encountered wildlife while navigating a loop around Ai Aiba game reserve, then tackled the Flying Boxer Challenge, requiring strength and coordination to pull a suspended motorcycle across a canyon.
  • Day 3: The Camel Thorn Tree Challenge tested riders' mechanical skills with a tire-plugging exercise in the Omaruru Riverbed.
  • Day 4: A scenic journey from Spitzkoppe to the Atlantic coast, culminating in the Rooi Tafel Trial, a technical course with tight turns and steep climbs.
  • Day 5: The longest day of the event, covering over 400 km from the coast back to Midgard, including the LEATT Push Challenge, simulating a real-world motorcycle jump-start.
  • Day 6: The final day featured a technical loop around Midgard, concluding with the Final Course, a challenging test of riding skills.
