The Wacken Open Air festival, a haven for metalheads, topped the charts with over 140,000 gigabytes of data transferred, showcasing the power of 5G with over 40% of the traffic on the latest generation network. The electronic dance music festival Parookaville came in second with an impressive 87,000 gigabytes, followed by the Hurricane Festival at 55,000 gigabytes.
"Summer, sun, beats and bytes: The 2024 festival season has so far brought not only musical highlights, but also peak values in Telekom's mobile network," said a Telekom representative. The company's continuous network expansion efforts ensured a seamless mobile experience for festival-goers, allowing them to make calls, surf the web, and stream content without a hitch.
The data reveals Instagram as the top app across all festivals, highlighting its popularity as the platform of choice for sharing festival memories. The events also attracted a significant number of international visitors, with most "roamers" on Telekom's network hailing from neighboring countries like the Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland.
Telekom's commitment to providing the best possible network experience was evident in its deployment of temporary mobile infrastructure at major festivals. The Parookaville festival boasted the most extensive setup with 14 mobile transmission stations, followed by Wacken with eight.
The festival season is not over yet, and Telekom is ready to deliver the best network experience for the upcoming Lollapalooza Berlin on September 7th and 8th. The company has already installed around 140 5G antennas in and around the Olympic Stadium and will further enhance the network with two temporary transmission stations during the event.
In addition to providing top-notch connectivity, Telekom is also bringing the festival atmosphere to fans at home through a free live stream on MagentaMusik and TikTok, as well as via MagentaTV and the #dabeiTV channel.
