Housed within the historic 100-year-old Illinois Building, a structure once listed among Indiana’s 10 most endangered landmarks, the InterContinental Indianapolis represents a remarkable revitalization effort.2 Locally based owner and developer, Keystone Group, acquired the property and embarked on a comprehensive redevelopment, culminating in its grand opening.3 Construction was completed by Keystone Group in 2024.4

Architectural Splendor and Design Details
The hotel’s design seamlessly blends historic charm with contemporary flair. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by refurbished original elements designed by architect Robush and Hunter in 1925, including brass doors and intricate grillwork.11 The $120 million restoration project added an entire rooftop floor, transforming the building into an 11-story architectural masterpiece.12 The exterior, preserving much of the Illinois Building’s original granite and limestone architecture, features Moderne bas relief panels and a gold-glazed terra cotta cornice.13
Interior design highlights include Murano chandeliers, a three-story glass chandelier in the lobby, and an art program showcasing works by Indiana artists.14 Italian marble graces the public spaces, adding to the hotel’s luxurious ambiance.
