SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Feb. 27, 2025 – Marriott International is solidifying its presence in the African luxury tourism sector with the announcement of two new tented safari camps in Kenya. This strategic expansion, executed through agreements with Lazizi Group of Companies, will introduce The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp and JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp.
This move builds upon the success of the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge, which opened in 2023, and reinforces Marriott's commitment to providing unique and high-end experiences in natural settings. These forthcoming properties will expand Marriott’s Kenyan portfolio to nine locations, encompassing over 1,100 rooms.
Strategic Expansion into Luxury Safari Tourism
"Building off of the incredible success we have seen thus far in our luxury safari portfolio in Africa and the growing appetite for outdoor lodging and non-traditional hospitality experiences, the signing of these agreements with Lazizi Group of Companies marks another milestone in Marriott International’s growth," stated Jerome Briet, chief development officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Marriott.

The camp will feature 20 tented suites, including a lavish four-bedroom presidential suite, each equipped with private lounges, plunge pools, and outdoor showers. Guests can anticipate curated game drives, a state-of-the-art spa and wellness center, an outdoor gym, and a dedicated photography studio. Dining experiences will range from a multi-cuisine restaurant with an extensive wine cellar to an authentic open-air boma.
JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp: Exclusive Wildlife Encounters
JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp, scheduled to welcome guests in early 2026, will be nestled within the 45,000-acre Solio Game Reserve, a renowned sanctuary for its rhino breeding program.
This camp will offer guests unique opportunities to encounter rare wildlife, including white and endangered black rhinos, leopards, and cheetahs.
The property will consist of 20 tented units, including two-bedroom suites featuring private plunge pools, multiple wellness spaces, and diverse dining options such as a sky deck restaurant. Additional amenities will include a spa, a conservation house, an animal viewing hide, and a horse barn. The camp will provide a range of experiences, from night game drives and guided nature walks to quad biking and horseback safaris.
Commitment to Sustainability and Community Engagement
Both camps will be constructed using sustainable materials and will incorporate energy-efficient infrastructure to minimize their environmental footprint. Marriott and Lazizi Group are also committed to engaging with local communities through job creation, educational programs, and conservation initiatives, ensuring that the development benefits both guests and the region.
