Koelnmesse Celebrates Centennial with Unveiling of Confex: A New Era in Event and Congress Facilities

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – June 29, 2024 – Koelnmesse GmbH, a global leader in the trade fair and exhibition industry, commemorates its 100th anniversary with the inauguration of the Confex, a state-of-the-art event and congress center poised to redefine the landscape of business gatherings. Strategically located adjacent to the Cologne Messe/Deutz ICE railway station, the Confex seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology, sustainable design, and unparalleled accessibility, offering a premier destination for events of all magnitudes.

A Century of Global Connectivity

Since its establishment in 1924 by Konrad Adenauer, Koelnmesse has served as a catalyst for international trade, fostering innovation and cross-cultural exchange. The Confex represents a landmark achievement in the company's illustrious history, further solidifying its position as a pivotal hub for global commerce and collaboration.

"For a century, Koelnmesse has cultivated a fertile ground for ideas and innovations from around the world," remarked NRW Minister President Hendrik Wüst during the opening ceremony. "The Confex ensures the perpetuation of this legacy, securing our position as a global epicenter for generations to come."

Where Innovation Meets Adaptability

The Confex is an architectural marvel, encompassing a sprawling 20,500 square meter space designed to cater to the multifaceted needs of modern events. At its core lies the divisible Confexhall, capable of accommodating up to 4,300 attendees, complemented by 22 conference rooms of varying capacities, ideal for intimate gatherings and large-scale presentations alike. The building's thoughtful design seamlessly integrates with the existing exhibition grounds, providing direct access to supplementary event spaces, ensuring unparalleled flexibility for event organizers.

"The Confex addresses a critical gap in our trade fair infrastructure," stated Cologne's Mayor, Henriette Reker. "It is poised to become a magnet for international congresses and hybrid events, attracting over 6,000 guests and ushering in a new era of events and audiences to Cologne."

Sustainability: A Cornerstone of Design

Koelnmesse's unwavering commitment to sustainability is evident in every facet of the Confex. The building has already received pre-certification in platinum from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), underscoring its eco-conscious design and operational practices.

Jürgen Steffens, from the architectural firm JSWD, which spearheaded the design and planning, eloquently stated,"Architecture is not merely a backdrop for interaction; it is a reflection of societal and technological evolution. The Confex embodies this philosophy."

A Future of Infinite Possibilities

The Confex has already garnered substantial interest, with bookings and inquiries extending to 2029. Its adaptability, operational efficiency, and captivating ambiance render it the quintessential venue for a diverse array of events, ranging from international congresses and trade shows to corporate conferences and product launches.

"The Confex marks a new chapter in our ongoing narrative, a narrative that has connected companies, people, and nations for a hundred years," proclaimed Koelnmesse CEO Gerald Böse. "It is a space where innovation and tradition converge, a testament to our past and a beacon for our future."
