Cycling Industry Reaches Turning Point, But Optimism Endures at Eurobike 2024

Submitted by J. Mikhail on

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – July 3, 2024 – The European bicycle industry is navigating a period of readjustment following record-breaking pandemic sales, but optimism about the future of cycling remains high. This positive outlook was a key message at the Eurobike 2024 trade show, which kicked off today with an expanded focus on diverse exhibitors, new partnerships, and a top-tier program highlighting the industry's most pressing concerns.

Industry Reset, Optimism Intact

After experiencing a surge in demand during the pandemic years, the European bike industry faced challenges in 2023 due to disrupted supply chains and a subdued consumer climate. Sales, production, and employment saw declines, particularly in the electric bicycle (pedelec) sector, which decreased by 7% compared to the previous year. However,Manuel Marsilio, Managing Director of CONEBI (the Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry), emphasized the industry's overall resilience, stating, "Despite this, the industry demonstrated overall resilience and the prospect related to the growth of cycling usage remains promising."

This optimism is echoed by survey results from Cycling Industries Europe (CIE), where 52% of members anticipate higher sales in 2024. Strong political support for cycling across Europe, with significant investments in cycling infrastructure, further reinforces the industry's positive trajectory.

Eurobike: A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

With over 1,800 exhibitors, 150,000 square meters of exhibition space, and a comprehensive conference program,Eurobike provides an ideal platform for the global cycling community to connect, collaborate, and explore new opportunities. This year's show features an expanded scope, encompassing not just bicycles but also broader eco-mobility solutions like e-scooters.

Key Themes at Eurobike

Eurobike serves as a stage for addressing critical industry issues, including:

  • Resilient Supply Chains: Ensuring stable and sustainable sourcing of materials and components.
  • Sustainability: Developing environmentally friendly manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Standards and Regulations: Advocating for clear and transparent regulations that support the industry's growth.
  • Targeted Marketing: Reaching both existing and potential cyclists with effective messaging and campaigns.

A Vision for the Future

"The bicycle and eco-mobility industry is the key to health, fitness, sustainable mobility and thus quality of life all over the world," said Stefan Reisinger, Managing Director of fairnamic, the organizer of Eurobike.
